SEVENTEENTH SESSION OF THE COMMITTEE FOR THE REVIEW OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE CONVENTION OF THE
UNITED NATIONS CONVENTION TO COMBAT DESERTIFICATION
Guyana, one of the one hundred and ninety seven (197) member countries of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) has pledged to be the host country of the Seventeenth Session of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC 17) to be held at the Arthur Chung Conference Center in January, 2019.
In order to promote the work of the Convention, the UNCCD Secretariat convenes sessions with its country parties to adopt decisions for strengthening implementation and reporting to the Convention, their partnership with other internal groups for advancing the work of the Convention, and address administrative approvals of budgets and workplans.
CRIC17 sessions are expected to be attended by four hundred to six hundred (400-600) persons from 196 countries – including staff from the UNCCD Secretariat and United Nations offices, country parties’ representatives, interpreters, media operatives (both local and international), administrative staff, other global partners and partner institutions and inter and non-governmental organisations.
Guyana became a member on ratification of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) on June 26, 1997 and effectively joined the international community in the recognition that desertification is a major economic, social and environmental problem of concern on September 24, 1997. Guyana’s context is not extreme to be consider ‘desertification’ but with the impact of degradation of land which is the loss of the productive capacity of land within a given area.
Guyana’s requirements as Host country are mainly to provide accommodation, conference facilities and operational support for the conference. The Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission, the National Focal Point of the UNCCD established a National Planning Committee for CRIC 17. As part of the operation support, Guyana is required to plan, organise and providing logistical and administrative support for the large gathering, which includes providing cafeteria services during the conference.
The Conference will be held at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre. Cafeteria services are required as follows:
Cafeteria and restaurants: The purpose of the Cafeteria Services is to provide a diverse range of refreshments for the staff, participants, on site attendees and visitors of the Conference during and after the official hours of the conference on a daily basis.
The service provider(s) will be required to provide a variety of food and beverages for breakfast and lunch as well as snacks during coffee breaks for staff and visiting delegates at reasonable costs. The proposal should include a required menu or menus prepared by the Service provider. If the service provider has his/her own tents, accommodation may be provided. However, tents must be of very good condition and quality equal to almost new in keeping with the UNCCD standards.
The cafeteria services are intended to supply a varied menu of dietary options such as non-alcoholic beverages (hot and cold), vegetarian and non-vegetarian snacks, halaal prepared, fresh meals, and desserts that are wholesome and of good quality and fit for human consumption.
Key responsibilities of Cafeteria Operator:-
The Individual/ Company is required to possess the following requirements:
1) Carnegie Certificates in cooking, secondary school or higher certificates in Food and Nutrition courses, Home Economics Management or similar is preferable, or related Registered Food Company information
2) Conform to Local Health Laws and requirements for safe food handling, preparation and storage (Certificate Required)
3) May utilize his/ her / Company’s furniture in the facility such tables and/ or chairs
4) Possess transportation or has his/her / Company transportation services to provide for the daily delivery services.
